French soprano Sylvie Valayre sprang to international attention after her Royal Opera Covent Garden debut as Abigaille in Nabucco in 1996 and has since performed in the world’s leading theaters, including the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Miss Valayre made her Washington National Opera debut as Salome in 2002 and returned in the title roles of Tosca and Fedora in 2005 and 2009 for Turandot.

Among her many roles Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Aida, and Lady Macbeth, as well as the Kaiserin in Die Frau Ohne Schatten and Chrysothemis in Elektra.

Ms. Valayre has recently been in Vienna for Aida, in Warsaw for Otello, at Glyndebourne for Macbeth, in Paris for Tosca, at Semperoper Dresden and Berlin for Macbeth and Turandot.

Among her future engagements are Nabucco in San Diego, a new production of Il Trovatore in Nice, and a new Attila in Marseille.
